Flower Square 8 Tutorial

So, I did it. I made my first tutorial in years! I was a little rusty. And maybe the photo's aren't the best quality... But I'm working on it. Anywho, here it comes!

As in all of my tutorials, I use US terms:
Stitches:
Slip Stitch (ss)
Chain (ch)
Double Crochet (dc)
Half Double Crochet (hdc)
Double Crochet Cluster (2dcc/3dcc): Yarn around hook, into a dc from previous round, pull trough, yarn over, pull trough 2 loops, there will be 2 loops on your hook, yarn over , hook in same stitch, pull through, yarn over, pull trough 2 loops, there are 3 loops on the hook now. Yarn over and pull through all loops.

To get started: Chain 4, join with slipstitch.
Round 1: Chain 2, 15 double crochets in initial chain-4 circle, join with ss in top stitch of first ch2. You have 16 stitches in total.

Round 2: Chain 2 in any stitch, dc in same stitch, chain 1. Now make a 2dcc, 1ch into the next 11 stitches. I use the ss from the previous round as a stitch as shown in the picture (see needle). Join with ss in top stitch of the first ch2. (See pic).

Round 3: Chain 2 in a ch1 space from the previous round, dcc into same space, chain 2. Into the next 15 ch1 spaces, make a 3dcc (so with an extra dc). In the previous round it was a 2 dc cluster, now we make 3dc clusters. (See photo's). Join with ss in top stitch of the first ch2. (See pic).

Round 4: Into the last chain 2 space of the previous round, ch2, 2 dc, ch2, 3dc. This is your first corner. *into the next space, 3hdc, into the next 3sc, into the next, 3 hdc, into the next 3 dc, ch2, 3dc*. Repeat * to * until you've reached your initial corner. Join with ss in top stitch of the first ch2. (See pic).

That's is. Finish off the loose ends and proceed as a normal granny square if you like (3 dc's in every space between and 3dc, ch2, 3dc into each corner).

My cushion is all finished. It turned out just the way I wanted, a real colorbomb! And I do like the off white instead of the bright white I usually used. To join the squares I used the join-as-you-go method.

Hope it's clear and will get you going! Let me know what you think. Have a yarn filled day!

By the way: You can find me on Instagram and also Facebook again...

New Flower Square

Those of you who follow me on Instagram already know I've designed a new grannysquare. Today I made a chart pattern for you guys to use. I plan to make a tutorial next week. My first after a looooooong time. Exciting!!

I've loved making these squares. They are so bright and colorful and I love how they make me feel while making them.

My favorite shade of pink is no longer available and I must admit, that kind of made me angry at first. How could they??? But than I started using the new pink, a little brighter, a little more 'in your face' and I kinda got used to it. It really pops out, don't you think?

For those of you who comment on my blog, I love you for it, but I have a problem with opening/reading them. It kind of sucks, because I love to communicate with you and I so appreciate your involvement. Therefor, if you feel the need to respond, please do it on Instagram (JennPoort). It's also possible to comment through Bloglovin'.  I'll make sure to get back to you there!

Hope you enjoy the chart! Have fun!!

I wanted to take some time to look back at my great year of 2014 already. Oh, what a lovely year it was!!!

I have only warm memories of all the nice people I met, through my blog and my visit to Sweden. All of you who left me those nice comments to make me feel better and inspired. I really LOVE this place! THANK YOU for giving me so much good vibrations! I appreciate it very much!

I hope to have brought some happy moments to you with my colorful happy work and I wish you all a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and an even HAPPIER 2015! (I know it's early, but because I'm not sure if I am able to post before the end of the year, I just wanted to have said it!)

Crochet Cushion Color Bomb

First of all, Thanks to you all for all the nice and caring comments on my last post. I really appreciate it!

I've been working on some very happy Color Bomb Projects. This is one of them. And how happy it turned out!!

As you all know, I love to work with many colors. I love to make them work together. I really love the results of this effort. I used my own Circle In Square Pattern (free tutorial).

The front crochet panel is sewn onto a fabric base cushion cover with zipper. Don't you love the fabric of the back? It's so fresh and lovely.

I like the edging too. It's very simple, like most of the edgings I use. But it makes the colors pop and it compliments the cushion.

This Colorful Crochet Cushion Cover  is for sale in the Color 'n Cream Shop. I wish you all a very happy monday!

Crochet Flowers

I'm so glad I opened up to you guys last week, about my doubts and feelings concerning my blog and business. It really helped me clear my mind and getting things back in perspective. The thing is, I really LOVE Color 'n Cream and I love that I'm able to do what I'm good at. I'm totally full of energy again and this morning I made a list of what I'm to do (and although it's a LOT, I'm looking forward to it too!!).

I've been having some fun these last few days. Like making these flowers from the little Mollie Makes Summer Homestyle book. I wanted to do this for ages, but I didn't know where I'd put it... I did some tidying up and found it again. This is a real fun project!! And it really brightens up the place!

Do you see the little grey ball, with the little legs and feet? That's my first paper maché project. Miranda from Mier Papier taught me last tuesday how to make this. It's so much fun. We totally had fun too. We met in Sweden, where we were both selling at the same market and instantly hit it off. When I visited her, I came in and we just talked and talked and talked for 7!!! hours and we have a lot of the same interests and taste. Her house is the prettiest I've ever seen, but naturally, I forgot my camera... Next time I will make photo's to share with you guys!

The orange shoe in the pictures tells a sad SAD story... There used to be 2 of them, my favorite pair... But yesterday my lovely BAD, BAD dog tore 1 of them to pieces!! I'm so sad because I bought them in Thailand and they were kind of dear to me. Can any body tell me what this model of shoes is called, so I could find new ones online?

The shoe is now an accessory and I think it looks great. I can still enjoy it! Don't you think it looks lovely on it's own too??

Well, I just want to encourage you all to make some flowers in the weekend, to make sure you still have some summer in your home now the fall starts... Have a lovely cozy weekend!

Monday Chit Chat

First of all, THANK YOU for all the kind words and the compassion you've shown me by leaving such nice comments on my latest post. It was so heartwarming and it convinced me even more to keep on going with this blog. Thanks a bunch!!

As you know I got started on some African Flower Action and I'm totally loving it to pieces. I think this is the prettiest project I've ever started. I'm so in LOVE with it! I decided it's going to turn into a new sleeve for my Macbook, since that really needed replacement. And I also decided to make a tutorial for you on how to make one of your own.

It's definitely my happiest project ever, although I did a lot of them. It's a Color Bomb through and through!

The colors inspired me to start something else too. I'm using one of my old patterns, the Circle Granny Square (check out the tutorial). It's turning out quite lovely, if I say so myself. And our iPad needs a sleeve too, so I just keep on going while I'm at it. Some nice stuff for myself, to lift my spirits...

Oh, and tomorrow Miranda from Mier Papier is going to teach me to paper maché!! Looking forward to that!

I hope you have a happy monday!!

Colorbombs

I've been a bit confused these last few weeks. Although I really love crochet and love the blog and all that comes with it, I've had some doubts about quitting. Sometimes it's kind of overwhelming. The blog and my shop are always on my mind... I really needed to take things slow a bit.

Naturally I get a lot of energy out of Color 'n Cream. I love to do crafts, not just crochet and I think I will be doing some more like sewing and crafting with felt or paper. I'm also a BIG button-lover... Maybe I just need a little variation. But I also need to spend time with my loved ones and really need to take better care of myself and relax more...

Having said that, I do enjoy my new crochet project a lot. I love to make a new Color Bomb and am planning to make something for myself for a change. I really need a big bag to do my grocery shopping in style!

So, now you know why it's been so quiet around here. Hopefully the wind has changed a bit. I think it has. And the weather is really going towards autumn, which I love, for crafting is so much more fun when it's cold outside, don't you think? I will keep you posted!

Have an inspiring day!

And The Winner Is...

Well today I will announce the 2 winners of the September Give-Away. Thanks to everyone for joining and sharing. Without further ado, the winner of the Fat Quarters and the buttons is... Ayda from Cafenohut Blog (lovely blog!!!). The winner of the Crochet Flower Coaster Pattern is... Anna Robinson. Congratulations to you both!

So, these are a few of the lovely dahlia's again... The pink one is beautiful isn't it? And the yellow-pink one is from my mom's garden. I hope to get some of them next year...

Don't know if you remember, but some time ago I showed you some pictures of an unfinished project and asked you if you knew what it would be. One of you guessed correctly. It turned into a lampshade. I finally finished it after having it laying around for 2 months...

I like it. I made it with different yarn than I'm used to. It's all Cotton 8, from different brands though. IT's soft and lovely, but in my opinion splits easier than mercerized cotton.

I also did some crafting this weekend, with my little one. She collected some lavender and we made little scented hearts. I used the idea from the lovely book All Sewn Up, from Chloe Owens. Very inspiring book and makes you happy just to look in it! I love the scented bags and think they will make a perfect holiday gift for the ladies... What do you think? Did any of you get started on the holiday presents yet??

And this is what I'm working on now. Not sure yet what it'll turn into. Something for me! A bag maybe, or a cushion?? Any ideas??

Have a lovely day!

Crochet Confetti Pattern

So, it's kind of a time consuming way of making confetti, but non the less, very durable and fun! Just think how lovely this luxury confetti would look on a pretty set party table, or coffee table. Or how it would brighten up your windowsill or just your pictures... This is how you make them. It's an easy and very small project.

Just make a magic circle, chain 1 and make 7 single crochets (UK double crochet) in the ring.

Use your scraps. I use mercerized cotton (also available in the Color 'n Cream Shop) and a 3,5 mm hook. Once you've made the sc's, pull the beginning of your yarn to close the circle. Now cut the end of the yarn and pull it through.

Now, look at the pictures closely how to join. If you do it this way, it's almost invisible where you've started.

Now just finish off and you are done!! Tadaaaah!!! Isn't it lovely in it's simpleness??

Let's PARTY!!!! Have a festive day!
