Flower Square 8 Tutorial

So, I did it. I made my first tutorial in years! I was a little rusty. And maybe the photo's aren't the best quality... But I'm working on it. Anywho, here it comes!

As in all of my tutorials, I use US terms:

Stitches:

Slip Stitch (ss)

Chain (ch)

Double Crochet (dc)

Half Double Crochet (hdc)

Double Crochet Cluster (2dcc/3dcc): Yarn around hook, into a dc from previous round, pull trough, yarn over, pull trough 2 loops, there will be 2 loops on your hook, yarn over , hook in same stitch, pull through, yarn over, pull trough 2 loops, there are 3 loops on the hook now. Yarn over and pull through all loops. 

To get started: Chain 4, join with slipstitch.

Round 1: Chain 2, 15 double crochets in initial chain-4 circle, join with ss in top stitch of first ch2. You have 16 stitches in total.

Round 2: Chain 2 in any stitch, dc in same stitch, chain 1. Now make a 2dcc, 1ch into the next 11 stitches. I use the ss from the previous round as a stitch as shown in the picture (see needle). Join with ss in top stitch of the first ch2. (See pic).

Round 3: Chain 2 in a ch1 space from the previous round, dcc into same space, chain 2. Into the next 15 ch1 spaces, make a 3dcc (so with an extra dc). In the previous round it was a 2 dc cluster, now we make 3dc clusters. (See photo's). Join with ss in top stitch of the first ch2. (See pic).

Round 4: Into the last chain 2 space of the previous round, ch2, 2 dc, ch2, 3dc. This is your first corner. *into the next space, 3hdc, into the next 3sc, into the next, 3 hdc, into the next 3 dc, ch2, 3dc*. Repeat * to * until you've reached your initial corner. Join with ss in top stitch of the first ch2. (See pic).

That's is. Finish off the loose ends and proceed as a normal granny square if you like (3 dc's in every space between and 3dc, ch2, 3dc into each corner).

My cushion is all finished. It turned out just the way I wanted, a real colorbomb! And I do like the off white instead of the bright white I usually used. To join the squares I used the join-as-you-go method.

Crochet Cushion Color Bomb

First of all, Thanks to you all for all the nice and caring comments on my last post. I really appreciate it!

I've been working on some very happy Color Bomb Projects. This is one of them. And how happy it turned out!!

As you all know, I love to work with many colors. I love to make them work together. I really love the results of this effort. I used my own Circle In Square Pattern (free tutorial).

The front crochet panel is sewn onto a fabric base cushion cover with zipper. Don't you love the fabric of the back? It's so fresh and lovely.

I like the edging too. It's very simple, like most of the edgings I use. But it makes the colors pop and it compliments the cushion.

Crochet Pattern Flower Square 8

Well, I must admit I took my time... But here it is!! The Crochet Pattern Flower Square 8. Isn't it lovely?

I think it works well in a cushion like this. If you'd like to make a cushion like this, you can also find my Cushion Cover Tutorial in the Color 'n Cream Shop.

This is a pastel cushion, but I think it will also look pretty with bright colors. Where would you use these squares for and what colors would you choose?

The Mystery Project is coming along nicely. I think it'll be done next week and I will finish the tutorial too. I also wanted to ask you guys, for the Mastering The Basics Series, is there something you need? Is there a basic technique you'd like me to explain. Like finishing off the loose ends, sewing squares together, stuff like that?

Crochet Cushion Tutorial

As promised, today my Cushion Cover Tutorial is finally available in the Color 'n Cream Shop. This is the pretty example I've used in the Tutorial. Isn't she a beauty? I actually love this small cushion. I think I'll make more. They are sooo cute! If you're interested in the cushion itself, keep an eye on Facebook. I'll let you know once it's available.

And of course, this is what all the ado is about. The back... I might even like it better than the front. What do you think? And the fabric is to die for! I bought it in Chiang Mai 2 years ago and still have some meters left.

I got my first custom order this morning. I'm so very excited!! I will keep you posted on this one. It's gonna be lovely and something else from what I did before, but still very Color 'n Creamy.

I totally forgot to tell you about the Amsterdam Maker Festival!! I made these coasters to take along with the others, last week. I really love the pink pretties...

Yes, these will shine on my own coffee table too. Aren't they sweet? The festival was fun. I met a lot of nice and talented makers and saw some beautiful and original stuff. I especially liked the work of Renske Versluijs. Beautiful leather and knit accessories! And her pastel color pallet... I stopped and stared at all that beauty.

Sadly, it was very quiet in the visitors department, so I sold close to nothing. But, I had a wonderful day and met some great people. Oh and did I tell you I was invited to attend a Craft Market in Sweden??!! More about that next week!

Pastel Crochet Cushion

Tadah!! Here it is. The Pastel Crochet Cushion Cover. I love how it turned out! It took me quite a while to finish though...  I used one of my old granny square patterns. This one has an edge too. A little white romantic edge.

I did the back in my usual way. It works lovely with the pink/white fabric and the yellow buttons. I added a little white edge on the back strip too. You can buy this Crochet Cushion Cover in my shop.

As you all know, I'm working on a tutorial on how to make a crochet cushion with a fabric back. The pictures are taken, I just need to finish the tutorial. And then finally you can all make your own!!

The little one is taking a nap here, on my craft room floor (on a mattress...). I always love to hear her breathe when sleeping. Oh, and yes, she is sick AGAIN... Poor little sweetheart. (Poor me too, hadn't had a normal night sleep since saturday)

Sold

I'm very excited! I sold my first Cushion Cover, and to no one less then Claire from Heart Handmade UK! I really love her blog on interior styling. It's so inspiring and pastel. She takes the prettiest pictures...

And so I wrapped the Cushion Cover (all my products get wrapped as a present when sold), crocheted a few flowers to go along and sent it on its way. All the way to the UK.

The funny thing is, it got sold before it even hit the shelves of my Etsy Shop. We were in contact because she bought some of my Flower Coasters and she told me how much she loved my new Cushion Cover. I was so very flattered! And that was that. Sold!

It's kinda sad it won't shine in my shop for a while though. I love to see all my products in a row. It always cheers me up. All those pretty colors...

Friday Fun

Been having some fun with my new Flower Coaster Pattern. Think it's very pretty and flowery... 

They are all available in my Etsy shop. They are all limited editions. 

I also promised you the results of my new flower square project. This is it! It's very soft in color (for my standards anyway). It will also be available in my shop.

I like the back too. This is lovely fabric, isn't it? Oh, and there will be a tutorial on the Flower Square sometime too.

Well, that's it for now. It's almost weekend, but I'm laying in bed, a bit under the weather...

Jolly Trolley

I know, I know... I would keep away from the blog... It's just that  can't. It's on my mind all day (and evening, 'till I go to sleep)! I just LOVE it so much. But I'm still taking it easy. Pulled out my sewing machine and got going. How you like them apples?? Or should I say Color Bomb Patchwork Cushion Cover?!

I love the way it turned out. And the back matches so well. I'm thinking to make a DIY kit to sell in my Etsy shop, would some of you like that?? It's a 40 x 40 cm cover, with zipper. It really brightens up the place (and yes, even my place can always use some brightening up!).

And it matches so well with the Pastel Color Bomb Project I started yesterday. It's going to be another baby travel blanket. Think it will be finished soon, since it's so much fun and it's easy.

But now, for the Jolly Trolly, I didn't want to keep this happy object from you. How pretty is this?? I've been drooling over this trolly from IKEA for months. I just couldn't think of a founded reason to get one. And even though I didn't find one, I got it anyway from my birthday money (yes, I got birthday money this year...). And how I'm LOVING it!!

It moves so smooth and the constant burst of color lightens up my moods. I don't know how I ever lived without it. And it's so useful for my yarn storage. Works like a charm!

Resolutions

First of all I wish you all a very happy and colorful New Year!! I hope you had fun during the holidays and maybe was spoiled a little?? I was.

As you already know I made a lot of coasters for presents. I think everybody was happy with them. It's always kind of scary to give someone something homemade, but they were well received. Funny enough, both my sisters had homemade presents too. They were the edible kind... Yummy! The picture above shows another set of coasters I made and although these aren't my usual colors, I still like them very much. If you like my coasters, they will be for sale at the end of the month in my Etsy shop in various color schemes.

Even though you haven't heard from me for three weeks, I didn't sit still. I finished my Scraps Color Bomb Project and, again, gave it away. My friend Mirjam told me, when I was working on it at one of our crochet nights, that it made her instantly happy. So I couldn't think of a better recipient than her. She looked at it, totally in love, all new years eve... Do you like the fabric I chose for the back??

But, I also wanted to tell you about my resolutions. Or at least one of them. I normally don't really care about resolutions, 'cause they mostly don't really mean anything, but in december I started cleaning out my house and I was startled by my own greed. I have so much stuff I don't use, some of it still brand new in it's packing! I decided this year is going to be about GIVING. So that's my resolution. I already started by giving presents at christmas, which I normally don't. But it's also going to reflect in my actions. I want to look around me and see what I have to offer to those in need. And of course, it's also going to show here... There's going to be a give away each month.

Now this cushion is finished, I can make you guys the tutorial! That's also gonna be published this month. My gift to you.

Having a little time apart from my blog inspired me to do something else too. I'm making a mobile of paper circles and I love it! It's always nice to diversify a little...
